Car's History: Original SS454 car, factory tach, gauges, boxed control arms, automatic ride-height control (Best indicator of a true '70 or '71 Monte SS454) Bought it for $400, sitting in a dirt-floor garage, at night, with no lights! (Car had spun bearing, owner wanted a bus ticket home).
Engine: 408 CID Big-Block from 74 Camaro. (402 + 0.30), forged Speed-Pro pistons, "Thumbprint" GM Rods w/stock bolts, factory cast steel crankshaft -.20R/.30M(!) Assembled myself, hand-filed ring gaps to 0.018 Top, 0.016 2nd.
Compression: 9.2:1
Camshaft: Hydraulic Flat-Tappet, Lift = .560" Int/.575" Exh. Duration 240 deg Int, 246 deg Exh @ .050" LSA 111 Deg, 5 degrees advance "ground-in".
Cylinder Heads: Oval-port, Open-Chamber, factory steel heads, "781" casting. 2.06/1.72" valves. Harland Sharp Roller Rockers. GM Springs. Very mild port work (basic clean-up & gasket match).
Intake Manifold: Edelbrock Performer RPM (high-rise dual-plane with plenum divider partially removed). Runs 2-3 tenths quicker (1/4 Mi) than with the old Torker 2-0, (better 60 ft) but 2-3 MPH less trap speed.
Induction: Holley 850 DP (List 4781) with red pump-cam on primary side.
Ignition System: Mallory Hyfire IVc, with 2-stage rev limiters; Mallory Unilite Comp 9000 Distributor, Mallory ProMaster Coil
Oiling System: Rod & Main Bearing Oil clearances = .0018-.0022". Std Volume/Std Press. Melling pump. Valvoline Syn-Power 10W30 synthetic oil, AC Delco PF35 filter (or PF1218).
Cooing System: Stock, 4-row GM brass radiator. Stock (long-body) water pump.
Exhaust System: Hooker Competition (2-inch primary) headers, same part number as 1970 Chevelle: 2455. Open, 3-1/2" collectors, no reducers.
Transmission: Turbo-400, Trans-Go shift mods to stock valve body. TCI 10-inch (Street-fighter) torque converter with anti-ballooning plate.
Suspension: Rear: Stock factory 4-link, with Polyurethane upper & lower control-arm bushings, air-adjustable shocks, Air-Lift air bag on right side. Front: Stock, with new rubber bushings & joints. Factory front & rear swaybars installed.
Wheels & Tires: Chevy 15x8" Rally wheels up front, Wheel Vintiques 15x10" Chevy Rally look-alikes on rear. Goodyear Eagle 28x11x15 Dragway Specials on back, Yokohama directional A550V HP radials up front 235x60x15.
Brakes: Factory front disc/rear drum, with new master cylinder, rotors & calipers.
Rearend: GM 12-Bolt, Richmond 4.10 gear, Eaton posi-traction carrier, Moser alloy axles, Castrol Synthetic 75W90 lubricant.
Power: 445-460
Best Performance: 12.88@106mph
Other Info: Car weighs 3750# without driver. Full stock interior. All-steel body, fiberglass cowl induction scoop with sealed air-pan (100% fresh-air induction).
